AI trading bots get hyped a lot these days. People talk like they’re the perfect solution, no emotions, no sleep, just pure data running 24/7. On paper, it sounds great. But in reality, crypto isn’t that predictable.

Sure, AI can scan charts faster than anyone, pick out patterns, and even read news headlines for signals. We already have platforms like Numerai, Autonio, and Stoic AI offering automated strategies, and some folks do see returns. But it’s not the magic key people imagine.

The problem is markets aren’t just math. They’re full of human behavior. Look at traditional finance, Knight Capital lost $440 million in less than an hour back in 2012 because of a trading algorithm glitch. If that can happen in a regulated market, imagine what could happen in crypto where anything can change overnight.

Alameda Research is another example. They had access to top talent, automated models, and endless capital. But when volatility went crazy, even they couldn’t keep things under control. Same with smaller AI hedge funds that looked strong in backtests but failed once they hit live conditions.

For me, AI makes sense as a tool, not a manager. It can automate rebalancing, help with arbitrage, or reduce noise in decision-making. But giving it full control? That’s like expecting a self-driving car to handle Lagos traffic perfectly, it’ll get you far until chaos shows up.

I think the best setup is a mix: AI handles speed and execution, humans handle judgment and sentiment. Because in the end, crypto moves on vibes, politics, and narratives as much as numbers. And I don’t think any algorithm truly gets that.
