I'm not sure if I have ever talked about this here, but about 10 years ago I had major brain surgery to remove a tumor (vestibular schwannoma, in the left auditory canal) that I developed as a result of exposure to large amounts of radiation during my years of military service. The operation destroyed cranial nerves 7 and 8, around which the tumor had grown, leaving me deaf in my left ear and totally paralyzed on the left side of my face. I cannot even close my left eye. This presents a unique problem for me when it comes to KYC verifications.
You've probably had to deal with some of these if you are a trader. Today, I have spent approximately 8 hours in chat with MathWallet admins attempting to get my account verified. I use the wallet for its OP_RETURN function, which I need to hold assets other than PCX on ChainX.org. The problem I encounter is, of course, with facial recognition software. MathWallet wants me to "wink my eyes" which I cannot do, and if I do manage to get past that, I am asked to "open my mouth," which I can do, but the expression is lopsided because the left side of my lips do not move. I look like Two-Face (from Batman). As hilarious as this looks, it does not satisfy the facial recognition program, which unfortunately does not have a sense of humor.
MathWallet isn't the first app I've had this issue with and I expect it will not be the last, so now I have to be extraordinarily selective in the exchanges and wallets I use. Another problem is that most of the ones that don't use KYC are not available to US citizens, one of which I happen to be. So, if anyone out there knows of a good exchange or wallet app available in the US that does not require KYC verification, please let me know in the comments. My own searches have not borne much fruit.
P.S. - If someone called Zuma contacts you on the MathWallet Telegram channel, they are phishing for mnemonics. Never give out your seed phrases to anyone.
