Let's talk about everyday Nazism. First of all, what is everyday Nazism? This is a form of xenophobia and discrimination that manifests itself in everyday life at the level of stereotypes, bias, jokes or everyday phrases. This is an unorganized, "invisible" Nazism, which is often not recognized by its bearers, but contributes to the spread of discriminatory views in society.
Examples of everyday Nazism:
1. Ethnic stereotypes – representations of peoples as something homogeneous, for example: "Everyone [nationality] is lazy," "They're all sly," "They all hate us," etc..
2. Bias in hiring – refusal of employment on the basis of nationality without objective reasons.
3. Xenophobic jokes – jokes and memes that make fun of people of other nationalities. I remember that the main characters of such jokes were often Chukchi, Blacks and Ukrainians.
4. Discrimination in everyday life – unwillingness to rent an apartment to people of another nationality or avoidance of communication with them.
5. Unconscious use of hate speech – for example, using the word "Negro" in a derogatory context or dividing people into "friends" and "strangers" without explicit awareness of this.
Why is it dangerous?
Everyday Nazism may seem harmless, but it forms the ground for more serious forms of discrimination and radicalization. It promotes the social exclusion of certain groups, reinforces prejudice, and can lead to ethnic violence.
How to deal with it?
- Become aware of your own biases and be critical of stereotypes.
- To develop intercultural communication, to learn more about different peoples and their traditions.
- To resist xenophobia in society is to correctly point out the unacceptability of discriminatory statements.
- Education and enlightenment to break the chain of transmission of stereotypes.
Although everyday Nazism is not as obvious as the organized manifestations of radical ideology, it is their basis. Therefore, it is important to be aware of its existence and to deal with it at the level of personal behavior and social norms.
