The Cult of Inspiring Humility

Do you, like me, love to listen to a well-fed man in clothes embroidered with gold and precious stones and a couple of million Rolexes, driving a Bentley, with personal security and relaxing on private yachts, surrounded by escort girls, about humility and the benefits of dying in war?

Inspiring.

New Pope

The series is a work of art.
Aesthetic and intellectual pleasure

One of the most memorable scenes
The New Pope was an episode where Pope Pius XIII was in a coma and a new cardinal was being elected in the Catholic Church.
The matter is not easy, since everyone is ready to rip each other’s throats out in the struggle for money and power.
So, at the council of cardinals, it was decided that the candidate ideal for this role was a quiet person, not attracting any attention, modest, and would be easy to manipulate in his own interests.
But it was not there.

The latter turned out to be a Franciscan, a follower of Francis of Aziz, who preached radical monasticism with an almost complete renunciation of earthly goods and pleasures, a fanatic living according to the commandments of God.
Being a “true Christian,” he wore cast-offs and did not strive to own any property, helped the poor and needy, condemned money-grubbing, put caring for the soul higher than caring for the body, and preached hermitism.

So, having received church power, the Franciscan insisted that the Vatican must shelter refugees, part with wealth, distributing it to the poor, sell paintings and statues to help those in need.
He allowed refugees into the Vatican gardens and buildings, closed access to bank accounts for his colleagues in the church, began selling off antiques, and installed surveillance cameras everywhere to prevent any hint of lust and sex in the church.

The cardinals were in shock, removing golden crosses from their thick necks and throwing off diamond rings from their fingers, abandoning pretentious attire and replacing it with gray cast-offs and laces. It is clear that the church has seen a lot, there have been various scandals, but this one has already crossed all boundaries...

How is it possible for the church to live according to Christian commandments?
Charity and modesty, the fight against lust and luxury, corruption - all these principles contradict the church and destroy it at its very core.
As a result, the new pope dies under mysterious circumstances.
(They removed this “insane” one so that he wouldn’t spoil anything else).

It’s funny that despite the fact that Francis II does things that are completely logical for Christian teaching, in the church this is perceived as absolute savagery and vulgarism, a rebellion.
It is noteworthy that in the eyes of other cardinals, this truly believing Christian looked, at a minimum, a dangerous fool, at a maximum, insane.
Isn't it ironic what the church has become over the centuries?

The moral of the story is the main enemy of the church and its main challenge, what is incompatible with it is a person living according to Christian commandments.
A truly religious person is an enemy of this structure, and certainly cannot find a place for himself there.
If clergymen lived like real Christians for at least one day, then such a corporation as the Catholic (and not only one) church would fall into oblivion and instantly lose authority in the eyes of its “followers.”
