Learning English and Exploring America

Once in the USA, an American woman complimented me: "How well you speak English." I said I was talking badly (it really is). She said that compared to the way she speaks Russian, I speak well. Everything is relative...

USA

I arrogantly thought that I would come to America and speak English in a year. But no, that wasn't it... Either I'm particularly incompetent, or it's a really difficult thing to start speaking a foreign language from scratch. You've probably often heard that English is not that difficult. But in fact, the situation here is different. You probably know that languages are divided into groups, for example, English is a Germanic group, and Russian is a Slavic one. So, learning is easier within one language group. For example, English will be easier for a native speaker of German or Swedish than for a representative of another language group. The more different the group of languages you want to learn differs from your grammar group and so on, the more difficult it is for you to speak. If Russian is very difficult for the British, then it means that it will be equally difficult for you, a Russian speaker, to learn English. Having come to another country with a different language, I began to appreciate people who speak two or more languages even more. Think about how people in Russia treat those who speak Russian with a big accent? That's not very good! I remember. Here in America, they say this: "If a person speaks English poorly, then he definitely speaks at least one other language perfectly. And he probably knows as many words as you do, but in a different language. His vocabulary is tens of thousands of times greater than yours. Think about it when you question someone's intelligence again because he or she is having difficulty with the only language available to you."

I used to find fault with other people's literacy, considering them poorly educated when they made mistakes in Russian. Now I think it's arrogance. After all, let a person make mistakes, it's not as bad as if they are very literate, but cruel and mean...

So, now we have a level in learning English, and today we discussed Democrats and Republicans. What I like about American education is that it is as practical as possible. When learning a language, we teach you how to call 911 and what problems to solve, how to fill out various forms of documents, how to count money, and how to deal with many everyday issues. Nothing superfluous, just everything we need. And today we are listening to the speech of Democrats and Republicans, forming our opinions and learning how to ask questions to the authorities! What do we want the average salary for, whether it's good or bad for free health insurance, education, who Trump is and what we know about him, what we know about Kamala Harris, we analyze the speech of Oprah Winfrey and Shapiro... And I really like it.

By the way, my teacher told me today that his mother once came from Dagestan and washed the floors in a bank, and his father was from Germany, and worked 2 jobs so that he, their son, would have an education and medical care.

And today, we have just recently arrived, we have free education and free medical insurance, thanks to the Democrats, by the way. This did not happen before, it was all introduced by the Democrats. Today, I and people like me all have free health insurance, thanks to the Obama law, which was called Obamacare, which is from the word Medicare (health insurance). Republicans are against this law, they want everyone to pay for their own insurance. Listen to Obama's speech at this Democratic convention, it was awesome!

Today I applied for meals from the college where I study, and today it was approved for me. I did this because my teacher said today that if you have a food scarcity shortage, and this is not only if you have a shortage of food, but if their quality is insufficient, there is little meat, fruits, and so on, then you have the right. To apply, you only need the student's ID and... your wish... I have come to love this country very much and I respect America, I judge it by how it treats the elderly, the sick, and the persecuted children... She is a great country and her greatness lies in mercy...

Life in America

God has given man freedom of choice. And no other person has the right to take it away from you. I remain free and wish you all the same, to be free!
