Those who until recently giggled at how rallies were suppressed and oppositionists were jailed, must now understand that after these oppositionists, they will come for you next, for any person who dared to express even the slightest discontent. These are the rules of the game of the totalitarian system. Soon everyone will have to hang a portrait of the sun-faced one in their home and begin each day with a prayer for his health, a hymn about his greatness and words of full support for the course of the ruling party.
This is exactly how the country goes behind the Iron Curtain, closing itself off. And then blaming the damned imperialists and corrupt capitalists.
YouTube is blocked because they are unable to cope with the flow of information that directly contradicts what the authorities have been spreading for the past 20 years, namely that Russia is not the center of the universe, does not fulfill its important duty to the Russian people, slaughtering families on the territory of Ukraine, and nuclear threats. We live in amazing times! Just a part of what you can watch on YouTube. There is simply no replacement for such a source and there can be none! If some morally deficient people wanted to turn it off, then they are absolutely 100% inadequate.
YouTube is the weather, knitting, treatment, programs about cats and cats and many other good things. There are more than enough problems in the country, but no, they got attached to YouTube, there are no more problems!

Now they've decided to forcibly transplant the entire country to their analogue of YouTube. And no, they didn't block it, but they made the download speed incapable of downloading even the lowest quality videos! Now it's impossible to watch YouTube without a VPN. And what they're doing is another disgrace for the country. And all their platforms are a direct window to the secret services, since all your messages will be reviewed, unwanted ones will be deleted, blocked, and you will be punished. I once looked at alternative hostings and realized that I like YouTube censorship.
Blocking YouTube is a very strange decision. Instead of VK collaborating with Yandex and getting something acceptable, they have no problems with funding, they needed to: 1) increase monetization many times over compared to YouTube, 2) pay bloggers for re-uploads to their platform, 3) turn off advertising, at least for a while. What is VK doing instead? They are making fun of YouTube because they are slowing it down, which causes a very negative opinion instead of whitewashing their reputation. Why can't Russia make people want to go to Rutube themselves? I tried it once, I was shown an ad before a video, ok, but after this ad I was offered to take a questionnaire about this ad and it couldn't even be skipped after some time. I closed Rutube forever. I've never seen such video hosting sites in my coffin in white slippers. Honestly, I tried using Rutube... I couldn't stand it... I deleted it!
The funniest thing is that YouTube works better than domestic platforms even with slowdowns.
They didn't create an alternative. In 2023, I went to Rutube, I didn't like it. In August 2024 I came in again and fainted. They spent so much money to create this shit. Personally, I am interested in watching channels related to cars, fishing, hunting, traveling around your country, educational channels, medicine. And now what? Why the hell are we being deprived of the right to watch what a person likes? Where can I watch what was on YouTube? Nowhere. Because there is nothing better than YouTube and there will be nothing. And the saddest thing is that people swallowed it again.
And if they block all known operating systems, then the country will simply plunge into the Middle Ages. We don’t have our own systems, Chinese ones work on Windows or Android. Even Yandex uses breeze compatible platforms. Are we going to sit in DOS? Is Turbo Pascal coming back? Is this a normal state?
People are happy only because the state’s hands haven’t reached them yet, they don’t seem to understand that in a couple of years they themselves can become victims of some new crazy law.
Yes, people who are in their right minds understand everything anyway, even without YouTube. And you can’t prove anything to the rest.
As a Russian, I’ll say that I don’t give a damn about all these blockages. The Russian Federation doesn’t even have a working alternative, VK and Rutube are half-dead.
