Let’s talk about Privacy in internet…

What is a privacy ?

Definition of privacy : link

1a: the quality or state of being apart from company or observation : SECLUSION
b: freedom from unauthorized intrusion
one’s right to privacy
2a: SECRECY
b: a private matter : SECRET
3archaic : a place of seclusion

Examples :

“Captain America, who débuted in 1940, got frozen in Arctic ice during the Second World War and woke up, in a film released during Obama’s second term, worried about data privacy”
— Jill Lepore, The New Yorker, “Does “Wonder Woman 1984” Hide Its Hero’s True Superpowers?,” 25 Dec. 2020

Also Privacy it is something what belongs only to me. It could be a thing or information data about me :

My Name, Finantial Status, Sex, Adress,
Phone number, Bank account,House, Car,
Familly, Character, Hobby, Interest, Secrets etc.

Those kind of information we always give to our Banks, Financial institutions or whatever and we “have” to trust them of course…

OK, but what about an internet, do we have a privacy there ?
Today everyone knows that companies like Google, Yahoo or your Internet Provider track your behavior across websites to serve you with highly relevant advertisements…
Governments are checking every move you make to predict your behavior and control you better.Hackers are waiting like hungry wolves to get the minimum information from us.
So the answer is No, but we still have a right to keep our privacy in internet and protect ourself.

How we can protect our Privacy in Virtual World?

There are many different tools in Internet that will allow us to defend our privacy. Before I start that boring talking about antivuruses, firewalls, VPNs and blablabla…

…I would like you to introduce — Frank.

Yes, Frank is a guy who loves using an internet.
There is no firewall and antivirus installed on Frank’s computer because, as Frank says:

“I don’t have any viruses, I don’t need it”.

He don’t know what VPN is.
When he is looking for something, he just use Chrome and Google.
So, now we already see that internet knows about Frank almost everyting :
- IP adress
- Who is and where he lives
- Nationality
- Sex
- Email
- Favorite websites
- What and where he buys
- What he is searching
- etc.
I belive even our neigbores doesnt know about us so much as Google knows…

One of Frank’s neighbors, whose name we don’t know, also loves surfing the internet. But he has an antivirus with a firewall installed, because he says viruses and trojans are not visible to the naked eye.
He uses a VPN to block his real IP and the informations he search are encrypted. VPN (Virtual Private Network) help him to connect with servers from all over the world, so he got a full access to information blocked in other countries.

Frank’s neighbor hates Chrome and Google. He claims that Google is the greatest spy in human history, so he use duckduckgo and bing, which does not store any information about the user of the computer.
He is using browsers such as brave and mozilla with a built-in ad-blocking plug-in and tracking scripts.

So… What does the internet know about Frank’s neighbor?
