I want to share today’s clip from Brian De Mynt, author of the Amazon best seller “Bitcoin Evangelism”, from my Podcast talking about his views of Bitcoin vs the other Cryptocurrencies, which inspired today’s article.

The R&D Department  

Altcoins, or alternative cryptocurrencies, are digital assets that are built on top of blockchain technology and offer unique features and capabilities beyond those of Bitcoin, the first and most well-known cryptocurrency. One such altcoin is Ethereum, which has gained significant popularity and adoption due to its ability to support smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps).

Many experts see Ethereum and other altcoins as the research and development department of the cryptocurrency world, where new ideas and innovations are tested and refined before being incorporated into Bitcoin or other established cryptocurrencies. This is because altcoins often operate as experimental platforms that allow developers to build and deploy new technologies without the constraints and limitations of more established networks.

Back to Bitcoin  

One example of this is Rootstock, a protocol that aims to bring many of the features of Ethereum to the Bitcoin network. Rootstock is designed to be a sidechain of Bitcoin, allowing it to leverage the security and decentralized nature of the Bitcoin network while also incorporating the capabilities of Ethereum, such as smart contracts and dApps.

Rootstock and other protocols like it represent a significant advancement in the cryptocurrency world, as they allow for the integration of new features and technologies into established networks like Bitcoin. This not only allows these networks to remain competitive and relevant, but it also has the potential to bring the benefits of altcoin innovations to a wider audience.
