EV.IO New Proof of Play distributions for S3. What does this mean?

Hey guys! Today, I want to talk about the new Proof of Play NFT distributions for Season 3 of EV.IO and why I am personally excited about it.

Background Knowledge on Proof of Play NFT's

EV.IO, since season 1, has rewarded players with a proof of play NFT. These can be separated into four categories.

  • Bronze - Lowest POP
  • Silver - Second Lowest POP
  • Gold - Second Highest POP
  • Platinum - Highest POP

One interesting thing, however, is that these NFT's have real utility. Every month, once a season ends, a user will be allowed to enter in an event called DM Earn if they have a Platinum Proof of Play NFT.

The DM Earn events usually last only one or two days and it distributes $5000 USD within that time period. If someone does not have a Platinum Proof of Play NFT, then they can craft one.

  • Silver - 3X Bronze
  • Gold - 3X Silver
  • Platinum - 3X Gold

The problems with the old distribution system

Unfortunately, for Season 1 and Season 2, there was many issues with the distribution system that really repressed the price of the Proof of Play NFT's.

  • Proof of Play NFT's were distributed based on the percent of the player base: During S1 and S2, People who were top 20% got Platinum, 30% got Gold, 30% got Silver, and the rest got Bronze. This created a larger problem of inflation of these NFT's
  • Proof of Play NFT's crafting system: The old crafting system (As shown on the crafting list above) allows users to craft silver POP's with bronze ones. This, however, created a massive issue of inflation. For example, someone can just make many different accounts, lend one NFT to each of them at a time, and get one kill to rank in the leaderboard. This way, they can eventually craft to a Platinum POP.

The New Distribution system

Fortunately, EV.IO realized the issues and fixed all of the problems that was present in the old distribution system.

  • Now, proof of play NFT's are distributed in fixed amounts, meaning that as the player base grows, the more harder it will be to get a POP.
  • They added the factor that if someone lends someone an NFT, the scholar holds it for 7 days. This prevents someone from mass producing Bronze POP's.
  • Even if someone manages to mass produce Bronze POP's, it can no longer be craft able to Silver, thus preventing the degradation of value of the other POP's

Conclusion:

This, to me, makes me glad that I started early playing EV.IO. Now, I believe that my POP NFT's will appreciate in value over time. This smart play by the EV.IO team also makes me trust the team significantly more with future decisions. Even if this game does disappoint, I would have lost nothing since all I did was play & earn.
