Hello Everyone!

Let me properly introduce myself. 

My name is Rebeca, a forty-year-old woman from Venezuela.

Most of my life has been lived around music. I'm a musician, oboe player, raised by El Sistema, the world renowned orchestral movement.

Since a very early age, I've been in that world, first watching my big sister and two big brothers, and then finally myself, at first with the violin and then with my precious, my oboe.

I must say, I have been always a little bit rebellious even at the very tender age of seven, when I returned the violin to the principal's office without telling my parents.

What can I say? I don't like the violin!

However I tried again in two different occasions with the same outcome, until the oboe fell in my lap, but that's a tale for another post.

Another thing you must know about me is this: I love cooking!

Since I was a little girl I always had a curiosity for it, so much so, that I got my first scar by cutting a tomato hidden from my parents, and of course, I got in trouble, after the visit to the ER.

As I grew older I started to experiment in the kitchen and found that there is something soothing about it, it the only place, besides my music, that I feel totally free. I don't follow recipes to the letter, I just go with the flow. 

In 2011, I signed up to a culinary school but I dropped out for two reasons: It was annoyingly slow and I got a slot in the local university to get my Bachelors degree in Administration.

So I kept cooking with my gut, and even managed to have a little cash flow selling cakes and baked goods to my classmates, teachers and orchestra colleagues. 

Carrying on, I'm Chronically ill.

In 2009 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain illness, syndrome, whatever. It was a dark time for me-hearing from a doctor that it doesn't have a cure but, in his words: "You will not die from it" had a very powerful impact on my head and my soul.

Realizing that my life would never be the same, that the strength and stamina that I had lost would never come back, had a catastrophic effect, so much so, I tried to end my life. Thankfully, I was found in time, got help, went back to my home town and made the necessary changes to keep going.

However, life has a funny sense of humor and in 2024, I was diagnosed with Lupus.

This time was different though. I already have experience dealing with this kind of scenarios so, although it has been very tough, I'm still standing, working, making music and enjoying life as much as I can. 

Finally, I enjoy writing.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I had the need to make an extra income, and given the circumstances it had to be online. Sadly, I didn't have the tools required to get a remote job until a friend told me about Hive.

I was apprehensive at first, I mean, I don't know jack-squat about crypto and writing. But I did it anyways, I was desperate, literally, and eventually that led me to read.cash. I wrote in both platforms for about three years straight and since then, occasionally, like yesterday to vent.

Surprisingly, I found out that I sort of have a good imagination, and most important of all, I like it. Yes, it takes me a while to write a post (I've been writing this one for two and a half hours), and since english is not my native language, well, I have to take my time more so, but is fun, and it's therapeutic, because I can get to express myself in a safe space, and meet people around the world, so, bring it on.

In this blog, I'll share posts from the previous platforms I worked on, maybe videos of me playing my oboe, and why not, short stories to try to expand my writing skills and grow, that's what life is about right?
