Canberra is the capital of Australia. It is located some 300 kilometres south of Sydney and 650 kilometres north of Melbourne. It is the home of many Government departments and functions including the Parliament House, consisting of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as the Treasury, the High Court, the National Library and National Gallery.

One of the great features of Canberra is its small population, only 400,000 people, and its close proximity to many great places such as the snowfields, many national parks and many local wineries.

Within 30 minutes drive is many wineries which produce a large range of high quality wines. In fact, there are more than 140 wineries within easy driving of Canberra.

Some of these wineries include:

Shaw Wines

With a range of cool climate wines, they have seated tasting areas plus a private tasting area for groups. They also feature a restaurant with great views of the surrounding countryside and vines.

Eden Road Wines

With a range of both red and white wines, Eden Road Wines have won a wide range of awards for their exceptional wines. A visit is highly recommended to sample their amazing textured and layered wines.

Clonakilla Estate

Regularly named as one of the top wineries in Australia, Clonakilla is known for its first class wines and service.  Arguably, they produce one of the best Shiraz wines in the country. Certainly make sure they are on your list when you visit the region.

Barton Estate

Established in 1997, this family owned winery has a reputation for excellent wine. Their focus on quality and research is widely regarded, with their cellar releases being highly sought after.

Helm Wines

Specialising in the production of the best Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, a visit is a must do when visiting the region. Taste their highly rated wines in the heritage listed 1888 Toual Schoolhouse.

I hope you get a chance to see Canberra and all the amazing places nearby. If you are looking to plan a trip, then start by visiting the Visit Canberra  website.
