Every country needs Bitcoin. I believe the poorer countries have more user cases and are adopting Bitcoin faster than the better off ones. People living in the top countries buy Bitcoin as a hedge, to keep their savings save or purely as a speculation token. People living in Latin America have to already use Bitcoin because their governments don't allow owning other currencies like USD to hedge against the always growing devaluation. I'm sure this is the situation in many other countries across the globe.
Anyway, back to Canada. Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland had an idea how to help Canada's recovery from COVID. By taking people's savings. Yes, you read it correctly. She is looking for ways how to get money the better off families managed to save. I know, this is unbelievable and I would be looking for ways to verify this should I read it somewhere on the internet. So I have. To save you the trouble of looking, here's the video where you can hear the idea straight from Chrystia Freeland's mouth.
For anyone thinking this can't happen because you're living in a free country? Ever heard of "Executive Order 6102"?
Executive Order 6102 is an executive order signed on April 5, 1933, by US President Franklin D. Roosevelt "forbidding the hoarding of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates within the continental United States." The executive order was made under the authority of the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1917, as amended by the Emergency Banking Act in March 1933.
