Johannesburg, the uplands of South Africa and South Africa as the Gate to its continent.
When I made a Google search on "upland in Johannesburg", I could already find some flights from Upland to Johannesburg.
But, jokes Bayside, one thing needs to be said in the beginning. I am not writing about the city upland in the United States of America.
I'm writing about the fast-developing blockchain game called "UPLAND"
The reasons why upland should come to Johannesburg are endless. Not only stunning landscapes, beautiful parks, casinos, zoos and incredibly unique lodges adorn the big city, also the biggest man-made forest on earth, the exotic animals and plants. Not to forget, the 3000 million years old landmass cradle Magaliesberg where Johannesburg is built today, might be the oldest of humankind.
To put it another way,
Johannesburg is a Hub for many cultures, religions and mindsets. It might be one of the most intercultural cities on planet earth. The country's nickname "rainbow country" is a match!
Well, you might wonder now what is upland?
Let me give you a small introduction. You can access upland via your internet browser
or an application on your smartphone.
Upland is a virtual parallel world where users play, operate businesses, and connect with fellow Uplanders. They buy, sell, and trade virtual properties with real money that are mapped to real-world addresses. Upland has started in San Francisco, New York, Chicago and other regions in the US.
Being physically present at the location of your ‘block explorer’ (your avatar) is not required to buy or sell properties.You can simply do it from where ever you want. The only thing you need is a Internet connection.
So far so good. But what is the difference between gaming and blockchain gaming? Well instead of having some game tokens governed by a game company that can anytime remove your account whenever they want, you will be able to trade and interact your digital assets/properties with real humans on a gaming interface in a virtual world.
Blockchain technology (EOS) then ensures true ownership of digital assets in Upland.
You can see for example my first property on the EOS Blockchain which I purchased with UPX.
The in-app currency called “UPX” fuels an open market economy and can get earned by your properties and other in-game activity. Throughout it needs to be said that earning "UPX" sounds easier than it is.
"UPX" is only an in-game currency and it is not traded on any exchanges yet.
How can you get "UPX"?
1. You purchase it directly in the game
2. You wait and earn from your property
3. You play treasure hunts or other events
4. You invite other people

Truly the interface and look is easy and remembers you that you play a game. The fact that you can use both, mobile and desktop is a big plus against one of its rivals like decentraland (MANA).
Also said need to be that upland is yet just in the beta testing and plans also on withdrawing and selling in-game with US-Dollar. Until then there is only one (suspicious) way and this is money goes -INSIDE- like all the old boring games.
On the other hand, Idan Zuckerman, Mani Honigstein and Dirk Lueth, the founders of upland have the dream to reach every major locale around the world at some point in the next few years. Which is not unrealistic.
In summary
If you break it down upland is like a real-life social media monopoly because Upland’s economy works according to the principles of supply and demand. It have a big social environment and with its treasure hunts and ranks made up quite interesting.

The competition is big. I would love to see some more ways to actively earn some UPX in the game. Until now, from my point of view is this beta test fantastic.
