The Infernal Venus

By Nathan Payne | pablosmoglives | 8 Feb 2025

Infernal Venus,

Yes indeed.  Riding up through desert yesterday, super-stoned and spacey, the Strip was slow and glowing, the show was alright — not bad — and afterward we won almost $30 at roulette between the 2 of us.  And the casino was singing its electric birdsong.  Fremont Street martini cup, rings like outer space.  Drive-thru window, pinball lights.  Inverted beaches flashing.  Dusty

Sunlight, heavier than pancakes.

I weave
smoke into the air
with my heirloom, exhaling
tapestries that
float,
and hang
from flocks of bluebirds.

Holy smokes we're free.

By the grace of God we're
free.

My heart floats like a flame
on the floor of the
ocean —

Unsocial motions
