"There is none righteous, no, not one:”

What's the difference between A Clockwork Orange and 2019's Joker? In Joker, Alex wins.
Watch the compressed sitcom version of A Clockwork Orange in this 5-minute clip, when Alex defeats the gang of droogs on the subway. Alex even provides his own laugh track:
In both A Clockwork Orange and Joker, the droogs become respectable members of society. In the former, they become cops. In the latter, they work in the financial district. Both are unrepentant in their thuggish desire for power and control.
In A Clockwork Orange, the droog police carrying Alex to the water trough have 2 different badge numbers, "665" and "667." Alex is between them. This means Alex is the devil.
But who is the devil, really, in a society of droogs?
Do you think you're not a droog?
How do you know?
If the society has flipped, and everybody is lying on their back with their legs waving in the air, like a bug who can't right himself,
And instead of pleading with their Creator to help them, to save them, to forgive them, to show them mercy, these furious, incapacitated insects laugh and spit and rage about how walking upright is hateful and patriarchal,
And they make it illegal to walk upright, and blame their inability to roll themselves over and stand on their feet on the insects who are at least trying to walk, if not actually walking, BUT,
What if the "good people" aren't repenting either?
What will happen when all the "good people" try to cash out their goodness all at once? What happens when there's a bank run on morality? When everybody (everybody) is standing in line at the withdrawal counters for the dividends of the virtue they have stashed away?
What will we do when the ATM machines of virtue are all empty? When the Virtuous Reality goggles stop working?
Are we going to vote our way out of the path of destruction?
What makes us different from the droogs?
A place to sleep and a little bit of food?

For argument's sake, let's say we're not the droogs. What will we do when the droogs come knocking? Will we defeat them with hugs? Or will we lock them in the upstairs bedroom, so we can torture them with beauty?
We are all droogs. We always have been. Dark things lurk deep within the hearts of all of us.
I call it "the infinite capacity of human incapacity."
Denying it doesn't nullify it, or make it go away.
Be very, very wary of people who deny it.
They're the most dangerous of all.
Fortunately, there's an out.
Thanks for listening.
