A Broken Tombstone

When I die I want a broken
tombstone,

Marble, rotten
white,

With the patina and consistency
of moonlight.

***

When I die I want a broken
tombstone,

A guardian angel of glowing neon
bone
leaning like a petrified
ghost

On the rot-iron streetlight swallowed
whole
by a python made of
vines,

Hidden in an overgrown corner
of a cemetery that is
easy to break
into

***

When I die I want a broken
tombstone,

Where people can write
songs,
poems smoking
bongs

Under the moonlight crawling like a
graceful
spider down their
face

***

When I die I want a broken
tombstone,

Cracked like an eternal
tooth
in the cemetery
jawbone,

Vandalized by prayers,

Not intentionally damaged,
but rather,
broken by the grace of God,
Who saw fit
not to let me
stay there
