Why would the prince of darkness visit Blyth?
Blyth is situated in North East England and during the 1980s was in steep industrial decline. Music occupied many and there were dividing lines between punks and rockers.
The answer to why Ozzy Osbourne would visit Blyth was very close to home, in fact it was at Number 19 Chamberlain Street, just a few doors down from me and he went by the name of Mark (Tony) Dennis. To paint a picture of Mark in the 80s imagine bleached denim skinny jeans, denim jacket and a blonde mullet and you are half way there.
So Mark had found out Ozzy’s address and camped outside of his house. Rather forthrightly, he asked Ozzy for a job working for him. Ozzy took down some details and Mark took this as a polite way that Ozzy was saying thanks but no thanks.
The story doesn’t end there. Ozzy came to Blyth to surprise Mark and welcome him to the team. This was his reason for visiting Blyth. Mark went on to be a key member of Ozzys team and made the most of this opportunity.
