Bitcoin! What an invention! I fell down this rabbit hole around April 2017 amidst the crypto boom frenzy. I will admit boldly that I watched a few youtube videos, read some articles and thought I was the expert, dived straight in and got burned in shitcoins, ICOs and the crypto bust.

Then realised that like a lot of the newbies, I was just chasing fast returns and had completely missed the point of Bitcoin.

So for the first chapter in this series, I would like to welcome any newbies for venturing into this brave new world and also welcome everyone else that has been here a while on the journey.

In this article I would like to focus on providing everyone with some quality information on starting their bitcoin journey.

In no particular order here are the sources I would recommend if you would like to really learn about bitcoin and ignore the price and the temptation to make a fast buck.

1. Andreas Antonopoulos - If there was one person that really got me interested in actually educating myself about bitcoin and ignoring the price frenzy it was Andreas. Andreas is a brilliant speaker and makes everyone understand why Bitcoin was created, how it evolved and how it works under the hood. Videos and podcasts I would really recommend:

2. Jameson Lopp - Provides a curated collection of information for Bitcoin and Lightning networks through his website https://www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information.html. This is the long haul. If you are in isolation and looking for a good read there is enough information to keep you busy through this Covid lockdown.
3. Twitter - Follow what's going on currently as cryptosphere is a fast changing game. Again I would keep to a list that provides a quality feed. My recommendations in no particular order: @nickSzabo4, @pierre_rochard, @vladZamfir, @muneeb, @nic_carter, @bitstein, @saifedean, @Whalepanda, @adam3us, @jimmysong, @starkness, @lopp,  @aantonop

Now if you are more into reading a book than scrolling mindlessly through lists of websites and audio/video content then look no further than these books, I have read them at least twice and every time I read parts of these book there is a 'light bulb' moment and something new that I learn:

1. The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous - You may have to buy this book as there is no free version of this available that I know of.
2. Mastering Bitcoin by Andreas Antonopoulos - https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook, Free version of the book on github. If you google you will also find a combined PDF of all the chapters.
