Cobo Hardware Wallet - A new design take!

By Project Uwb | ozmate | 10 Aug 2020

With all the bull craze going around in the cryptoverse, there is always one basic lesson that everyone needs to revise, memorize and follow "Not your keys Not your Coins".

So with that in mind, I stumbled on this new Hardware wallet which is a really interesting project while I was looking for rewards on the Coingecko website using their candies.

Cobo Wallet claims to be the first to open source their secure element firmware and schematic and has an interesting take on the hardware wallet. Here are some things that may pick your interest:

  1. 4 inch touchscreen
  2. Airgapped from wifi, bluetooth, mobile connectivity and any physical connections such as USB
  3. Uses QR codes for all data transmission i.e transaction broadcasting/ signing
  4. Claims that QR codes have a much smaller attack surface than other means of connectivity
  5. Bank grade secure element to generate random numbers
  6. Detachable battery pack with options for both AAA and rechargeable.
  7. Self-destruct mechanism that erases all data if its detected that the device is being dis-assembled

If all the above key points make you want to read more, please click on the link below for a full blown medium article by the company on the key design elements and their roadmap. A very interesting read in my opinion.
