1. ETH-Based Developer Crowdfunding Platform Joins Fight Against Coronavirus
The proliferation of cryptocurrency companies seeking to donate or raise funds for coronavirus relief efforts continues. Ethereum-based crowdfunding platform, Gitcoin, is advancing this trend by pledging at least $50,000 in development grants toward coronavirus-related initiatives. Gitcoin tweeted that its fifth round of grants already has $50,000 committed toward “public health” initiatives. 2. Akon Shares Whitepaper for Akoin Cryptocurrency
Akon has shared the whitepaper for his upcoming cryptocurrency exclusively with Cointelegraph. The document describes Akoin as a cryptocurrency “designed for entrepreneurs in the rising economies of Africa and beyond,” adding that the project’s mission is to “unlock the potential of the world’s largest growing workforce” using blockchain technology. 4. Cardano to Roll Out Commercial Infrastructure
Proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain Cardano (ADA) is working on implementing commercial infrastructure and have reassured the public that development is on schedule. Charles Hoskinson — the CEO of IOHK, the firm behind Cardano — said that official updates about the coin’s critical commercial infrastructure should be expected in the coming months. 5. Air Cargo Industry Could Save $400M Per Year With Innovative Blockchain Tech
Sita, an air transport communications and information tech company, and ULD Care, a trade association, are exploring the possibility of using blockchain technology to save $400M a year in the air cargo industry. Blockchain technology allows air cargo companies to digitally track and record the change of custody for airline cargo containers. The proposed blockchain platform will also embed authentication and trust-based functions to reduce the risk of tampering, cybercrime, trade-based money laundering, fraud, and illicit trade. 6. Bitcoin searches on Google hits 7 month high even when price has got massive drop
The search term “Bitcoin” has exploded in popularity on Google in the last week, suggesting the unfolding global economic crisis may be spurring on interest in BTC even in the wake of one of the coin’s most devastating sell-offs ever. Worldwide search volumes for Bitcoin have broken out to hit a seven-month high according to data from Google Trends, having started to rocket on Wednesday, March 11. 7. Binance.US Will List Tezos Token for Trading on March 16th
Digital asset marketplace Binance.US will be listing XTZ, the in-house cryptocurrency of blockchain project Tezos. On Binance’s website, trading for XTZ/USD and XTZ/BUSD trading pairs will be available on Monday, March 16th at 9:00 AM EST. At the time of writing, users on Binance.US can deposit USD, BUSD, or XTZ to their wallets before trading goes live on Monday. 8. Zimbabwe's central bank to regulate crypto now
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the country's central bank, is set to regulate cryptocurrencies after banning local banks from processing crypto payments in 2018. The central bank has already started drafting a policy framework to guide operations of crypto firms. The RBZ has apparently admitted that the crypto trend is a reality. Bank have already started to come up with a fintech framework. The framework, which is a regulatory sandbox, will be assessing the cryptocurrency companies as to how they are going to operate. 9. Bakkt Raises $300M in Series B funding From Microsoft, Pantera, Goldfinch
Bakkt’s CEO Mike Blandina, revealed that the Bitcoin futures trading exchange managed to close another successful investment round. In its Series B, Bakkt raised $300 million of capital from prominent actors such as Microsoft’s M12, PayU, Boston Consulting Group, Goldfinch Partners, the Intercontinental Exchange, CMT Digital, and Pantera Capital. Another thing that Blandina touched upon was the upcoming launch of Bakkt’s application that would also allow users to convert digital assets into cash and benefit from instant liquidity.
