1. Steemit Joining Tron (TRX) Blockchain
Steemit, the blockchain-based social media platform where users can be paid to curate or create content, is partnering with the Tron Foundation to bring Steem dapps and users to Tron. The companies announced Friday that Tron and Steem developers will jointly be looking into migrating Steem products and users to the Tron network, and ultimately swapping the STEEM token for a new Tron-based version. 2. US Intelligence Community Sees Crypto As a Threat to the Dollar
The United States intelligence community is seeking a researcher to model risk scenarios for how and why the dollar could lose its global supremacy, and how best to respond. The role was advertised on Feb. 14 by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). The successful candidate will be tasked with evaluating threats to the dollar’s status as world reserve currency — most notably cryptocurrencies and the rise of major new economies such as China and India. 3. OKEx Expands Into India’s Crypto Market
OKEx partnered with India’s largest cryptocurrency trading platform, CoinDCX, to launch a new crypto futures product in India. Specifically, the partnership purportedly unlocks CoinDCX’s new crypto futures product, DCXfutures, that will enable users to trade futures contracts with major cryptocurrencies with up to 15x leverage. According to the firm, the futures contracts will be available for at least eight coins including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), XRP, Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), EOS, Cardano (ADA), and Tron (TRX). 4. Balaji Argues Bitcoin Will Likely Hit $100K
Former Coinbase CTO Balaji S. Srinivasan believes there are similarities between the pattern of the latest Bitcoin price surge and the coronavirus outbreak. Based on Stochastic Model, he argued that in 2009, it was unlikely that BTC would cross $100k. But as it has already crossed $10k, it is more likely to cross $100k as well. Srinivasan drew a parallel to how on Dec 1, 2019, the coronavirus outbreak was unlikely to go beyond 100k cases. 5. Google Joins Hedera Network's Governing Council, Price Spikes Prematurely
After Hedera Hashgraph announced Google would be joining its governing council on Tuesday, the price of the network’s native token HBAR rose above 5 cents for the first time since the network’s launch and above 2 cents for the first time in a month. However, HBAR holders seem to have been reacting to headlines: The cloud services subsidiary has no plans to further invest in the Hedera network. “We’re not providing material financial support, purchasing Hedera coins or providing any other endorsement of Hedera’s network or currency,” he said. 6. IOHK Donates $500K To Open Cardano Research Lab at University of Wyoming
The Cardano blockchain's lead development firm has established a research center at the University of Wyoming (UW) after making a $500,000 donation in the ADA cryptocurrency. The center will feature a Plutus development facility, providing blockchain developers with an applied laboratory for writing code in cardano's smart-contract language. "This is a very applied laboratory, where instead of doing peer theory, we're actually building real-life things and writing real software that will enter production very quickly," IOHK CEO Charles Hoskinson explained. 7. Ethereum Browser Wallet Metamask Reaches One Million Users
The ethereum browser wallet Metamask has surpassed one million users of its Google Chrome extension. Four years after launch this milestone comes as ethereum transactions see a spike, doubling in less than a month from 400,000 to now 800,000 transactions a day, the highest of any top blockchain. Gas usage has also spiked to its highest level since September, while fees remain very low at less than five cent for a fast transaction of under two minutes and also ethereum’s hashrate has also risen, up from 150 Terahashes to now at 170 TH/s. 8. Mike Novogratz: ‘Best Brand’ Bitcoin Can Hit $20K by May Halving
The Galaxy Digital crypto merchant bank CEO Novogratz believes Bitcoin (BTC) has the potential to reach and even surpass its all-time highs of $20,000 by May’s block reward halving. While acknowledging altcoins had beaten BTC in terms of returns since Jan. 1, Novogratz said that Bitcoin had “found its own lane” as a unique store of value. Acknowledging bitcoin potential, he told, Bitcoin is probably the best new brand of the past eleven years, a $200 billion market cap for a line of code that came out just eleven years ago.
