The creation of digital scarcity for specific assets was incredibly difficult before the introduction of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).  Even with copyright protections, it's relatively easy for consumers to copy or pirate any sort of digital artwork.  NFT development has brought us crypto art, digital collectibles, real estate, and logistics... but it doesn't stop there.  You can use NFTs to prove the authenticity of a plethora of unique and collectible goods.

While still a young ecosystem, NFTs have interesting projects that are already generating value for both creators and consumers alike.  In this article, I will be going over several NFT use cases that are beneficial and helping grow the NFT ecosystem.

Who doesn't love some good crypto art?  Some love it, some hate it, and some are in the middle.  Crypto art gets most of its value from verifying the authenticity and ownership digitally.  Anyone can look at different types of crypto art and even download it for themselves, but they cannot prove that they own the original one (unless they own the NFT).  The actual ownership of the asset is what is usually most important to the NFT consumer.  Looking through digital art within NFT marketplaces (ie OpenSea, AirNFT) will make us think about what gives true value to a piece of art.  Regardless, the benefits for artistic creators and consumers are massive in this newer marketplace.

People have been hoarding collectibles for years, whether it be sports cards, gaming cards, or even cars.  Collectible NFTs already have a huge demand on the NFT marketplace to date.  From Jack Dorsey's first tweet above to NBA Top Shot, digital consumers can now bid for digital collectible assets.  There's a lot of crossover with crypto art and sometimes an NFT can be both a collectible and an art piece.  Essentially, you can compare collectible NFTs to a digital version of a signed autograph.

Gaming always has a huge demand for unique items that are tradable and purchasable.  The rarity directly affects the price, while gamers are all too familiar with the idea of valuable, digital items.  Just think about micro-transactions and in-game purchases within your favorite console/pc/app store games.  Tokens for video games can combine the aspects of art, collectability, and utility for players.  Regarding big-budget video games (ie Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, etc), NFTs are still ways away from implementation.  For now, gaming NFTs are generally cosmetic, but they can have the potential for additional utilities in the future.  An example of a different utility would be CryptoKitty, where you can collect kitten NFTs and breed them depending on which NFTs you own.

Linking real-world assets with NFTs can revolutionize the way we prove ownership.  Rather than having a physical copy of a property deed, a tokenized digital asset of the same deed within a blockchain could serve the same purpose... without the hassle of worrying about a house fire or a flood damaging a piece of paper.  This is probably one of the newer use cases for NFTs in the digital marketplace, so it will be exciting to see how often this is applied.  You could also use NFTs to prove legitimate ownership when either purchasing or selling jewelry.  Comparable to a certificate of authenticity of a diamond, a minted NFT can serve the same purpose as well.

I hope you enjoyed my list of top NFT use cases!  These aren't the only way NFTs can be utilized in both the real-world and digital marketplaces... just ways that I find NFTs to be beneficial.  With the popularity of NFTs growing, there's a great chance that we will see more ideas and use cases for them in the future.  Who knows... maybe the only way to purchase a house or vehicle will be done through NFTs.  Either way, NFTs appear to be here to stay and grow!
