Phantom Wallet’s Referral Program: What the Fine Print Actually Says
Phantom quietly turned its wallet into a referral business. The pitch inside the app is simple: invite a friend, earn 25% of their trading fees. We went straight to Phantom’s own help center and its legally binding Referral Program Terms to see exactly how that number works, what actually lands in your account, and which parts of the pitch are locked in versus subject to change without notice.
What Phantom’s Referral Program Actually Offers
According to Phantom’s own help center, the Phantom Referral Program lets you invite friends and earn 25% of the net trading fees Phantom receives from their eligible trades, for three months. Your friend gets 10% of their own eligible trading fees back for the same three month window. Both numbers are stated plainly, in Phantom’s own words, not inferred from a tweet or a third party referral site.

Straight from Phantom’s own help documentation. Both the 25% and 10% figures, and the three month window, come from this page.
Both the referrer’s 25% and the referee’s 10% are paid as cash, not as a discount applied at the moment of the trade. The rebate is not deducted from the fee upfront, it is credited separately to a balance. There is no stated cap on how many friends you can refer or how much you can earn in total, a detail Phantom repeats directly in its own in app copy: “no limit on friends, no limit on earnings.”
Why Payouts Land in CASH, Not SOL
Both the referrer’s earnings and the referee’s rebate are paid in CASH, Phantom’s own USD denominated stablecoin, credited directly to each person’s Phantom Cash balance. Phantom Cash is a separate product the company introduced in a blog post on September 30, 2025, built on Solana and designed to work alongside bank and card funding, peer to peer payments by username, and a debit card issued through Lead Bank under a Visa license, with Bridge Ventures LLC as program manager and Stripe handling identity verification for virtual accounts. The referral program is, in effect, one of the ways Phantom gets CASH into new users’ hands: fee rebates and fee shares both flow into that same balance rather than into SOL, USDC, or whatever asset generated the original trading fee.
How to Get and Use a Referral Link
Getting a link is a mobile only process. Open the Phantom mobile app, tap your profile avatar in the upper left, then tap Refer & Earn. From there you can copy your link, show a QR code, or use a direct share option. Your link follows the format phantom.com/r/username, and your referral code is simply your username, which is exactly the structure behind a link like phantom.com/r/theweb3guy93.

Phantom’s own product screens for the Refer & Earn flow: total earned, referrals made, the phantom.com/r/username link, and a scannable QR code.
The signup side has a hard restriction worth knowing before you share a link: a referral code can only be applied during signup inside the Phantom mobile app. It cannot be entered after signup, and it cannot be applied when signing up through the browser extension or Phantom Terminal. Once someone does sign up on mobile through a valid referral, though, their eligible swaps on the browser extension start counting toward the referral benefits too, so the mobile restriction only governs how the code gets attached, not where the referred person has to keep trading afterward.
Quick reference: what Phantom’s own pages actually confirm
Referrer earns: 25% of net trading fees from a referred friend’s eligible trades, for three months, paid in CASH.
Referred friend gets: 10% of their own eligible trading fees back, for three months, credited to their Cash balance.
Code entry: mobile app only, at signup, cannot be added afterward.
Payout mechanics: at most once per day, after a $1 minimum payout threshold is reached.
Legal reality: the 25% and 10% figures are shown in the app and can be changed by Phantom at any time, per its own Referral Program Terms.
What Actually Counts as a Qualifying Trade
Phantom’s help documentation states that spot trades, perps, and predictions all qualify for referral benefits, as long as each trade happens within the applicable rebate or earning window. Payments themselves are credited in CASH at most once per day, and only after the recipient crosses a $1 minimum payout threshold. Phantom’s help page also notes that before receiving payment, a user may need to complete identity verification, provide requested information, or maintain an eligible Cash account, meaning the payout is not fully automatic for everyone.

The Fine Print: Those Percentages Aren’t Locked In
Here is the part the in app copy does not emphasize: the 25% and 10% figures are not written into Phantom’s legally binding Referral Program Terms as fixed numbers. We read the terms directly, last updated August 19, 2026, and both the Referee Rebate and the Referrer Fee Share are defined only as “a percentage,” with the actual rate “displayed in Phantom’s user interface” and subject to change.

Section 5 of Phantom’s own terms, word for word: the rebate percentage and the three month window can both be changed at Phantom’s sole discretion, at any time.
The same language applies to the referrer’s 25% Fee Share in Section 6: the rate and the earning window are “determined by Phantom and may be modified from time to time.” In practice this means the 25% and 10% figures currently published on Phantom’s help page and shown in the app are real, current, and exactly what they claim to be today, but they are not a permanent promise. Phantom also reserves a separate, undisclosed “Creator Tier” in Section 7, under which select creators can receive escalated rates or longer windows that ordinary users do not get, through a private Creator Agreement that is never published.
Rules, Taxes, and What Can Get You Disqualified
Phantom’s terms spell out real limits most referral guides skip entirely. Self-referral, fake or duplicate accounts, bots, and wash trading are all explicitly prohibited, and Phantom states its decision to disqualify a participant is “final and unappealable.” Promoting a referral link through paid search ads or by bidding on the keyword “Phantom” is also banned unless separately authorized in writing. On the tax side, the terms draw a clear line: the Referee Rebate is treated as an adjustment to your own trading cost, not as income, while the Fee Share a referrer earns from a friend’s trading may count as taxable income, with Phantom able to request a W-9 or W-8 and issue a 1099 where required. Finally, Phantom caps its own total liability for the entire program at US$100, a standard but worth-knowing clause in Section 15.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really get 25% of my friend’s trading fees?
That is the rate Phantom currently publishes on its help page and shows inside the app, for three months starting once your friend funds their wallet and makes a first qualifying trade. It is real today, but Phantom’s own terms state the rate can be changed at any time at its discretion.
Can I apply a referral code after I’ve already signed up?
No. Phantom’s help documentation states referral codes can only be applied during signup in the mobile app, and cannot be added afterward.
What trades actually count toward the rebate or fee share?
Spot trades, perps, and predictions, as long as each trade happens within the active three month window, per Phantom’s own help page.
Why does the payout show up as CASH instead of the token I traded?
Phantom Cash is the company’s own USD-pegged stablecoin feature, introduced in September 2025. Both the referee rebate and the referrer fee share are credited to a participant’s Phantom Cash balance by design, regardless of what asset generated the original trading fee.
Is there a limit on how much I can earn?
Phantom’s in app copy states there is no limit on friends referred or on total earnings. Payouts are still gated by a $1 minimum threshold and are issued at most once per day.
The Bottom Line
Phantom’s referral program is exactly what its help page says it is right now: 25% of a friend’s trading fees for the referrer, 10% back for the referee, both for three months, both paid in Phantom’s own CASH stablecoin. What the pitch inside the app does not spell out is that neither percentage is a contractual guarantee. Phantom’s own Referral Program Terms treat both numbers as adjustable at the company’s sole discretion, on top of real anti-abuse rules, a tax distinction between the two sides of the program, and a liability cap that shows this is, legally, a marketing program Phantom can reshape at will. None of that makes today’s rates fake. It just means the numbers you see in the app right now are the only numbers you should actually count on.
