Is There Anything Like Christ Mass?
There are too many definitions of this term, mass. In the context of Christmas, Mass is
the central act of worship of the Roman Catholic Church, which culminates in celebration of the sacrament of the Eucharist. The term mass is derived from the ecclesiastical Latin formula for the dismissal of the congregation: Ite, missa est (“Go, it is the sending [dismissal]”).
Now if we go by this definition, I wonder who is dismissing the congregation. Christians on Christmas day assemble in places of worship in order to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ.
Was Jesus Born On 25th Day Of Christmas?
Christ was born. That is a fact. He was born in a manger in Bethlehem where his parents had gone for a census. Most guest rooms were full and the only place baby Jesus planned to come to this world was in a filthy manger. A manger littered by the poop of cattle.
But was this on 25th of December? No! It is not mention in the gospels the exact date Jesus was born. Sextus Julius Africanus, a Christian historian set the conception of Jesus on 25th March resulting into the birthday of Jesus put on 25th December which is nine months after conception. So Christmas was not always celebrated on 25th December.
Does It Matter The Exact Date Christ Was Born?
This question should be put in a different way. Does it matter if you did not know your birthday to put a certain date to celebrate. No, it does not matter. In fact the more you celebrate on the date you choose it is when it will stick in your mind as your birthday. There! So we celebrate Christmas on 25th December.
The date does not in any way remove the gist from the celebrations. We are looking forward to the Christmas celebrations.
Are All The Things That Go With Christmas Necessary?
We have so many things we do to make Christmas pompous. First there is the Christmas tree with all the lighting and gifts. We have father Christmas bracing all the snow to ensure the gifts reach their destination. Christmas carols are sung and Bible recitations about the birth of Jesus done. Friends and relatives come together to share and celebrate. Are all these necessary?
We normally celebrate Halloween and it is never Halloween without the scary dressings, pumpkins and all the other paraphernalia. If it is so then we can only identify Christmas with what identifies Christmas from any other celebration.
What Is The Main Purpose Of Christmas?
Christ was born to die. At birth, the Magi brought him gifts. There was Gold, myrrh, and frankincense. Gold represented kinship, while frankincense was for priesthood and lastly myrrh prepared Jesus for his death. Imagine people visiting your newborn child with the gift of a coffin.
The death of Jesus was for him, to be a scapegoat, carry all our sins, die on the cross, to save all who believe in him from death and live again in Christ. So the death of Jesus is what makes us celebrate Christmas. Somebody was born to die for our sins.
Let Christ be born in your heart this Christmas.
