titled Can We Get A Consensus on What It Means To Be A Christian? This post made me thinking! Do we even know what a Christian is?
Simply, it is a follower of Christ. Christians or disciples of Jesus were first called Christians at Antioch. Acts 11:26 records how the name came about. It comes from the Greek word Christos
which means anointed but Christianoi means followers of Christ. The disciples had in word and deed resembled Christ fully and thus the name.
There are many Bible translations that some do defer from the original meaning. This in itself is no worry as those translations serve the purpose they are intended to, to deceive.
However the Bible is clear on this.
Revelation 22:18-19 New International Version
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.
This is a warning for those who date add or subtract. Our God is so big but humbles himself to a small level that we mock him without realizing his omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence. He punishes in his own due time.
Psalm 37
Of David.
1 Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
Spirituality is the way we live. We are spiritual in nature.
