Why does the amount of tips on articles go up and down over time? Anyone have a full answer to that?

I noticed my tips (tho it's not a lot, but every penny counts these days) Go down sometimes? I figure maybe because of the markets going up and down? If so do our tips raise when the markets raise?

Not trying to be a penny pincher (actually yes I am)..lol I did read in other places of where people talked about the cons of pubilsh0x is that they seemed to get money took away from them? Maybe I missed something in reading the aggreements? But if anyone has an actual real answer, please let me know, I would appreciate it.
