Well well.. The magic of PI network is here.. Below is a concise guide for Pi Network users on how to create new accounts, set up wallets, complete KYC, download nodes, and mine Pi—both on mobile devices and computer.
The Pi Network Open Mainnet launched on February 20, 2025, enabling external transactions and ecosystem participation. To mine Pi, use the ecosystem, and secure your coins, you must create accounts, set up wallets, complete KYC, and optionally run nodes on your computer. Here’s how to do it.
1. Create New Pi Network Accounts
Pi is a new digital currency developed by Stanford PhDs, with over 55 million members worldwide. To claim your Pi, follow this link https://minepi.com/sachindra and use my username (sachindra) as your invitation code.
Why: Each person is allowed one Pi account to mine Pi coins. New accounts let you start mining and join the ecosystem.
How:
Download the Pi Network app from the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
Open the app and select “Continue with phone number” or “Continue with Facebook” to register.
Enter your phone number or link your Facebook account, then provide your full name (must match your KYC ID later).
Use an invitation code from an existing user (e.g., ask a friend or find one in Pi communities) to activate mining.
Verify your email or phone number via the app’s Profile section to secure the account.
Important: Pi enforces a one-account-per-person policy. Creating multiple accounts risks losing all Pi mined if detected during KYC.
2. Create a Pi Wallet
Why: A wallet is required to hold and transfer your mined Pi coins after KYC and Mainnet migration.
How:
Download the Pi Browser app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
Log in using your Pi Network app credentials (phone number or Facebook login).
Navigate to wallet.pi within the Pi Browser.
Follow the prompts to create a wallet:
Generate a passphrase (a 24-word private key). Write it down and store it securely—never share it.
Confirm your passphrase to activate the wallet.
Your wallet is now ready, but it will only receive Pi after KYC and migration.
Note: You need a wallet for each account. Without it, mined Pi stays in the app and can’t be used in the ecosystem.
3. Complete KYC (Know Your Customer)
Why: KYC verifies your identity, ensuring you’re a real person. It’s mandatory to migrate mined Pi to your wallet, use the ecosystem, and mine post-deadline.
Deadline: Submit your KYC application by February 28, 2025, to avoid losing most of your Pi (except the last 6 months’ worth).
Requirements:
Be 18+ years old.
Have a government-issued ID (passport, national ID, or driver’s license).
A clear face for the liveness check (must match your ID).
Mined Pi for at least 30 days (new accounts must wait until March 22, 2025, if started today).
How:
Open the Pi Network app.
Tap the hamburger menu (top left), then select Mainnet > Mainnet Checklist.
Complete all tasks up to “Submit your KYC Application” (e.g., verify email/phone, join security circles).
Open the Pi Browser, go to the KYC section (usually prompted in the app or found at kyc.pi).
Upload your ID and complete the liveness check (takes 5-10 minutes).
Submit your application. Approval may take minutes to months, depending on validators in your country.
Check Status: In the Pi app, a green checkmark in your profile or Mainnet Checklist means you’re verified.
Cost: 1 Pi coin (paid to validators), deducted from your balance post-migration.
4. Start Mining on Your Phone
Why: Mining earns you Pi coins daily, which you can later use in the ecosystem.
How:
After creating an account, open the Pi Network app.
Tap the green lightning button every 24 hours to start a mining session.
Boost your rate by:
Adding 3-5 trusted contacts to your Security Circle (via the app’s menu).
Inviting new users with your referral code (Ambassador role).
Log in daily to keep mining active.
Note: New accounts started today (February 22, 2025) won’t be KYC-eligible until March 24, 2025 (30 days), but you can still mine and prepare.
5. Download Nodes and Mine on Your Computer
Why: Running a Pi Node on your computer supports the blockchain and may earn extra rewards (currently in testing, full rewards start post-Open Mainnet).
Requirements:
A desktop/laptop (Windows, macOS, or Linux) with reliable internet.
Basic hardware: 4GB RAM, 100GB free storage, stable connection.
A Pi account with a wallet (see steps 1-2).
How:
Visit node.minepi.com on your computer’s browser.
Download the Pi Node software for your operating system.
Install and launch the software.
Log in with your Pi account credentials.
Apply to become a Node via the Node interface:
Initially, you’ll use the desktop Pi App interface (similar to the mobile app).
Apply for blockchain validation (Node role) when prompted.
If selected by the Core Team (based on reliability), complete KYC to activate your Node on Mainnet.
Turn the Node on/off as needed via the software to mine/validate transactions.
Note: You still need a wallet tied to your account to receive Pi. Not all applicants become Nodes immediately—selection is phased.
6. Migrate to Mainnet and Use the Ecosystem
Why: Migration transfers your mined Pi to your wallet, enabling ecosystem use (e.g., peer-to-peer transfers, app purchases).
How:
After KYC approval, return to the Mainnet Checklist in the Pi app.
Complete remaining tasks (e.g., link your wallet’s public key).
Submit for migration—your Pi moves to your wallet within 48 hours typically.
Use your wallet in the Pi Browser to send/receive Pi or explore Pi apps.
Deadline: February 28, 2025. Post-deadline, unmigrated Pi (beyond the last 6 months) is forfeited.
Key Tips
Act Fast: With only 5 days left until February 27, prioritize account creation, wallet setup, and KYC submission.
New Accounts: If you start today, you’ll miss the KYC deadline (30-day mining requirement), but you can still mine and prepare for later migration.
Nodes: Optional but enhances participation. Requires patience as Node selection isn’t guaranteed instantly.
Security: Store your wallet passphrase safely—losing it means losing your Pi.
By following this guide, you’ll be ready to mine Pi, secure your coins, and join the Pi ecosystem before the critical February 28, 2025, deadline. Happy mining!
