The Growing Importance of Stablecoins in Global Payments

Upon considering the ecosystem of digital payments, one thing that becomes obvious is that stable coins are those coins that have a stable value, which means that their value does not fluctuate significantly like the value of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, for instance.

Stable coins are always meant to keep a fixed value against a real-world currency like the US dollar.

In addition to being built upon a blockchain infrastructure, stable coins can facilitate international transactions since anyone is able to send and receive money from all over the globe.

In my opinion, the future of these currencies does not depend only on the issue of speed.

Users require assurance that there is adequate reserve and the ability to cover redemption requests.

The fees, wallet availability, exchange rate, regulatory issues and the cost of changing tokens for regular cash also have an impact on the final cost of the payment.

The use of stablecoins may pose certain threats such as fraud, money laundering, reduction of the power of the currency and difficulties if the issuer fails to keep the peg.

These currencies do not necessarily replace banks and international payment system by themselves.
