Usually, when people try to imagine what the future of crypto would look like, they expect something spectacular. Bitcoin reaching huge value, new currencies emerging everywhere, rapid transformation of banks, or full replacement of the financial system by blockchain. Predictions surrounding crypto have never been modest, which makes such expectations only natural.
However, it doesn't have to happen.
With further development of the technology, cryptocurrency could become an everyday tool used without much thought. While currently people tend to endlessly discuss blockchains, wallets, tokens, and other related concepts, some of those concepts might start working in the background without users having to pay any attention to them. Like how the Internet is being used by most people without them worrying about servers and Internet protocols.
It may even be a sign of progress.
The most practical and efficient technologies are usually not the ones that attract the most attention. With crypto becoming more stable and accessible, perhaps the greatest transformation will come without anything spectacular happening.
It's also possible that the future of crypto will involve fewer innovations and experiments and focus on creating valuable infrastructure. Stablecoins, tokenization of assets, various blockchain apps, and cross-network communication protocols are some of the fields in which developers and financial institutions have already been testing their theories.
However, this doesn't necessarily mean that all projects will come to fruition. Crypto has always had its share of projects that garnered lots of buzz but ultimately vanished into thin air. It's possible that some projects won't get realized, while others quietly become useful but remain unnoticed by anyone.
This is what might make the future of crypto less exciting than expected.
Perhaps it won't have that one moment of revelation when everyone realizes how crypto has transformed the world. Perhaps the development of technology will happen in a way that would go unnoticed by most people.
Ironically, when something becomes genuinely useful, it also becomes invisible.
Perhaps the future of crypto won't involve making any fuss.
Perhaps the future of crypto will involve making no fuss at all.
