There is a peculiar thought that comes into my mind sometimes.
What if there were no Bitcoin until today?
What if a person published a whitepaper on the internet and stated, "This is my new digital currency. There is no governmental body to control it, nobody owns it, and it is accessible for everyone."
Would people believe him?
To be honest, I doubt that they would.
In my opinion, people's first response would be skeptical.
They would ask who the author is and whether this project could be trusted and reliable.
Of course, this would be a legitimate question.
Currently, there are lots of cryptocurrency initiatives all around the world.
Every week, one more token appears with a slogan that it is the future of finance and people see that all this is just marketing.
Therefore, I wonder whether Bitcoin would get the necessary attention if it appeared today.
In 2009, there was no world of cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin was a peculiar concept.
Nowadays, it enters the market full of coins, their influencers, opinions, and so on.
On the other hand, maybe, this feature makes Bitcoin outstanding.
There is no aggressive marketing here.
Neither celebrity endorsements nor promises of fast profit.
Only the idea that is based on some coding and has its purpose.
Learning about Bitcoin every day, I realize that what made this initiative strong is not its cost.
It is the fact that Bitcoin was working constantly even when people did not believe it.
It was gaining its trust gradually.
In my opinion, many initiatives do not understand this principle.
Trust cannot be demanded; it has to be earned.
Thus, if Bitcoin had been created recently, would it get people's trust right away?
I think it would not.
However, if it remained true to its purpose and proved to be reliable throughout the years, people would pay their attention to it.
As I mentioned above, trust cannot be earned overnight.
