Bitcoin Has No Customer Support So Who Fixes Its Problems?

Bitcoin operates in a way that is quite different from other online services. If an application ceases functioning, its users are able to contact the company that develops this particular application.

There is neither a central company nor any official support department responsible for dealing with all of Bitcoin's issues. Its software is being developed by contributors who review the code, find bugs, make suggestions, and create patches. Bitcoin Core is one of the key software implementations that allow connecting to the Bitcoin network.

Whenever a user spots a bug in the software, he or she can report it via the project's issue tracker. Issues of security type are handled via another track because publishing information about vulnerabilities of this type would expose the users to certain risks.

The developers examine the reported problems, think about ways to solve them, and submit changes in the code for further review. Still, discovering a bug does not necessarily mean that the problem will be fixed immediately.

Developers can make changes, but they cannot impose them to be accepted by all Bitcoin users. The changes in the code are reviewed and tested.

After releasing the new version of Bitcoin, individuals and organizations decide whether to install the new software. This is significant since Bitcoin operates on various independently-operated computers.

Full nodes have another significant part. They check transactions and blocks according to the consensus rules of Bitcoin.

In case the block violates the rules, a working node rejects it. Hence, developers do not have any control over every computer in the network.

The update in the software can make improvements in Bitcoin Core, but it depends on people using that software. In some cases, when there is a change in Bitcoin rules, additional attention should be paid to the process of coordination.

Then the question arises, who is fixing Bitcoin's bugs? Developers find the problem and provide possible solutions, reviewers analyze them, and users and node operators choose which software to use. There is no such thing as customer support in Bitcoin.
