May 22nd marked the 12th anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza Day, the day that a lot of people think started it all. It's the day that the beloved Bitcoin finally achieved real world utility as Laszlo Hanyecz, posted on the bitcointalk forum "I'll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas.. like maybe 2 large ones so I have some left over for the next day..." Someone took him up on his offer and had 2 large pizzas delivered to his house in exchange for 10,000 bitcoins. Although at current prices this exchange seems to be almost infuriating to read, at the time 10,000 bitcoin was only worth around $40. However, that means that he had to significantly overpay for the pizza even back then but Laszlo stated he's happy with the result and doesn't regret it as it is essentially the event that started bringing bitcoin some mass appeal. From then on the idea of exchanging bitcoin for real world goods and services (a lot of them illegal!) 

     In honor of this legend to the community and based upon current prices, his roughly $300,000 pizza purchase, Coinbase has announced a sweepstakes in which one lucky user will win $500,000 in Bitcoin. That's enough for three large pizzas! To enter, all you need to do is register on the app/website just by hitting the register button and then trade at least $100 worth of crypto on the app (fees included). You can do this with a maximum of $1000 for 10 entries. I decided I might as well join in the fervor and entered the sweepstakes myself with 10 votes, spending $1000 on buying Algorand. I'm not a financial advisor but in my opinion, Algorand is my favorite option if I have to buy and hold something on Coinbase due to it offering a 5.75% APY yield and me being personally bullish on the future of the project. If anyone is interested I will do a deep dive on Algorand but regardless, any purchase is valid and you can throw it all away on a memecoin.
