Cryptocurrencies in politics, starting from the USA

A new survey by Grayscale Investments has revealed that a large portion of American voters would prefer a crypto-conscious president following the next election.

The research was conducted by The Harris Poll, on behalf of Grayscale, on a sample of 1,759 adults intending to vote, and indicated that 73% of voters would consider concrete preparation of candidates in terms of innovative technologies necessary, starting from blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

In this sense, a certain concern for the financial stability of the country seems common, as well as a certain fear of inflation together with what it could entail in the coming years.

Inflation itself would be "the biggest problem", but closely linked to cryptocurrencies, in particular Bitcoin, as a new possible solution (or parachute) in a context of monetary devaluation.

A regulatory obstacle to overcome

Furthermore, it is not surprising that younger people are more interested in the asset than others. Interviewees from Generation Z and Millennials, for example, would already own more cryptocurrencies than shares in their investment portfolios in the US, and would agree that blockchain technology could be the future of finance.

More surprising, if anything, is the 46% of voters who would hope for "additional policies" before entering the crypto world, signaling how the US regulatory ambiguity regarding cryptocurrencies is still a critical element in relation to the adoption of the technology.

Washington legislators are indeed working on a federal regulatory framework for the sector, but at the same time they do not hold back in coercive actions towards the industry.

It is therefore hoped, from this point of view, that the growing importance of the crypto sector in the political sphere can fuel the debate in a proactive manner, perhaps favoring a better relationship between regulatory authorities and the large players in the crypto market.
