Tomorrow marks a really sad day for me. During this pandemic everyone has had to deal with mental health issues myself included. When I was offered a job to proctor kids I jumped at the opportunity to make some money. My mom always has told me I would end up a teacher and this was a chance for me to dip a toe into that realm.
The first few weeks were rough. I had to learn to read the kids emotions and body language to keep them engaged in their school work and also learn how to do 2nd grade math..... I took business calculus in the spring and the kids are taught the long way to do math so I had to relearn that.... While I was able to safely say I do not envision myself as a elementary school teacher in the future I have come to love the kiddos I work with.
I am already down to the last 4 (I had 9 at one point). Thinking tomorrow is the last day I will ever work with them seems surreal to me. I can say they definitely left a mark on my heart and I will forever cherish the time we had. It also means that tomorrow is my last day at this job. Luckily I am a paid intern at a Congressional Campaign so I have that source of income however that will wrap up after the election in November and will once again be unemployed.
It’s just crazy to me to think I would be in this position after graduating in May when a year ago the economy and job market was booming. I will continue to count my blessing though for the jobs I have been able to get and what each one has taught me. I am anxious for my future and what it holds because like the old saying goes “this too shall pass” and I cannot wait for it to.
