Elfin saddle is one of the mushroom species that should be approached with caution. Although it is edible, an inexperienced mushroom picker can confuse it with other poisonous species, for example with (Gyromitra esculenta) which is deadly poisonous and usually grows in the spring or (Gyromitra gigas).

The head of the Elfin saddle can have different colors - from chestnut to red-brown, or even light brown, with black spots.

The construction of the head consists of irregular 2 or 3 and sometimes 4 folds, slightly pointed upwards. Folds can reach dimensions up to 15 cm wide. They are empty inside.

The leg can reach about 15 cm in height. It has a pinkish tint, with a predominance of white. It is often undulating and the root is tuberous. Inside it is empty or consists of many chambers.

Pleasant, slightly mushroom in taste and smell, the flesh is very fragile. It's the color of a hat. Elfin saddle is an edible mushroom.

Unlike similar poisonous species, this mushroom appears not in early spring, but in autumn. It is quite rare and can be found mainly in coniferous forests, in mountainous terrain or in the foothills. His posts are old stumps, rotten wood lying in the ground.
