Dirty tricholoma - very tasty summer edible mushroom

By madventure | Nature, Photography | 16 Mar 2024

This edible mushroom, which appears in Europe already in July, can be found mainly in pine forests. It usually grows in groups, growing directly from the ground.

It often grows in an environment where there is a lot of moss. If the autumn is quite warm without frosts, we can meet it even at the end of November.

The dark gray, sometimes brown-gray hat can reach up to 10 cm in diameter. The young mushroom has a semicircular, slightly conical shape, and in old age it opens and becomes flat or even concave.

The matte surface of the cap is covered with delicate, fine scales, black-gray villi. Sometimes it can be cracked, especially in older mushrooms.

The white plaques change color to ash, earthy-gray quite quickly. On the edges of the cap you can clearly see the darker color of the lamellae. They are quite dense.

The leg is white in color, becoming gray with age. It's empty inside. It has a cylindrical shape and can reach up to 8-10 cm in height.

On the surface, as on the hat, you can see small villi. It is delicate and very fragile.

The edible flesh has a mild mushroom flavor and smell. It is white in color and, like the leg, is very fragile. Does not change color when damaged.
