Suillus variegatus, commonly referred to as velvet bolete or motley bolete, is a species of edible fungus of the genus Suillus. Like all species similar to boletus, it has pipes and leeks instead of gills under the hat. Occurs in North America and Eurasia.
The hat has a diameter of 6 - 13 cm. It is rusty to dark or ocher, and has a velvety or fluffy feeling when it is young. As the skin matures, the surface becomes smoother, even oily and sticky in wet periods. The pulp is pale lemon and can become slightly blue when machining. Tasty edible mushroom.
