Meratus, not only rich in biodiversity, but also contains a quality and quantity of coals.
Prior to this post I shared a poetry in my mother tongue, Banjarese. I find it hard to literally translate the poem into English so I write this instead so you can figure out what I was saying. This writing would come in several posts for me to keep it short. So, please keep up..
First, I would like to familiarize the word Meratus.. It is our local term for Schwanner-Muller's Mountains spread in South Kalimantan. It is one of the green belts of Indonesian equator. The best of it, very dense rainforest. Meratus, not only rich in biodiversity, but also contains a quality and quantity of coals.
Currently, most of the mountains in Meratus area have beed divided into many mining sites and concessions are owned by several big players in Indonesian coal industries.
Meratus, the rich rain forest is at the brink of destruction.
