I will try my best to be quick and to the point, so you get a lot of information in a small amount of text. I'm a passionate card games player, from Yu-Gi-Oh in my childhood to Hearthstone and MtG Arena in my teenage years. Gods Unchained allows me to play a free digital cards game with unique mechanics, while simultaneously having ownership over my cards. The mechanics should be something you try for yourself, because everyone has different tastes, so I won't be focusing on them.
The part I am focusing is "owning my cards" part. The team behind the GU has created a simple and yet effective system for creating NFTs for non-techie users. The game has 2 currencies, one is in-game and the other is crypto. The first is called Flux and the second $GODS, both can be earned for simply playing and both are used in the minting process, so you can transform your basic cards into stylish and tradable NFTs. The reason I said stylish is that once the card is made into an NFT, you can create three more NFTs of this card, and you can use the 4 copies to mint one copy of the card in higher rarity.
What does that mean? The card will always have the same stats and effects no matter whether it is basic or an NFT, but GU allows you to create more "fancy" looking cards by sacrificing 4 copies of the same rarity to get one copy of a higher rarity, think of it like the shiny/foil cards in games like Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh and MtG, virtually no difference other than bragging rights for the owner of the card, but it's great for collectors and the economy of the game. As I said earlier, Flux and $GODS can be earned while playing, but there is a difference between them. Flux is earn from playing matches, completing the Gauntlet of the Gods(game mechanic that encourages you to play matches using the different Gods) and leveling up. GODS on the other hand does not have a constant way of being earned. The team behind GU has used different events, tournaments and other ways of distributing $GODS to the player for playing, but for now they don't have a concrete way for you to earn your $GODS tokens, but not for long. The team has communicated with the player base that they are working on a day-to-day system for the players to earn their $GODS tokens, and this is not the only thing they talk with their users about. The team behind GU is communicating with their players constantly, and so far I can only applaud them for it. They are open about delays in rewards whether that be technical issues on their behave or something else, new updates and features being beta tested, confirmed partnerships and event. This is the major reason I believe that Gods Unchained will be bigger and better in the coming years, the team behind it talks and listens to the community, something that the big players in the filed often forget to do. I hope you enjoyed this quick introduction to the game and that you don't feel like I wasted your time.
TL;DR : Free cards game where you own your cards because they are NFTs and the developers listen to the community.
