If you didnt know by now, I am an American living in Mexico. I love it here, even with all of its oddities. The roving bands of dogs, the frequent vendors passing by selling things over loud speakers, and many other things that took me off guard when I first moved here, but am pretty use to now.
The one thing that I see as a huge opportunity is the ability to sell things without a license. I have baked zucchini bread for a while now, and sold it without ever worrying if a cop was going to ask me for a permit. That is much better then finding out little Missy got an infraction for selling lemonade in front of her house.
Of course, if you are going to sell commercially anything here, you will need a permit, but it is much easier to get it than in the USA. And, the cops and health inspectors arent going to be breathing down your necks.
There is an unspoken rule here, the Americans, Canadians, Europeans, and English are left alone. Why? Well, there is the obvious, they have money, and will boost our economy thing, and the mexican girl who runs away with a man from one of these countries for a better life, thing, and well, you get the point.
Funny enough, I have run into some of these women. And I have run into others who dont care about the USA because they have government jobs, and get paid well enough to have a maid, a gardener, and 3 cars, and their children all go to private school. You would think that the majority of Mexicans are poor, but you would be wrong.
Minimum wage here is 200 Pesos or USD $10 per day. And, as I have said in other posts, I looked for work, and found that the majority of jobs pay more than that, except really low level jobs like janitorial, or gardening, and the like. And they work 6 days per week, which comes out to around 2,000 pesos per week.
So, with this in mind, how would a planned crypto economy work in a place like this?
The unbanked will be able to have a wallet and be able to get the things they need.
Small businesses are NOT destroyed by regulation, and are actually thriving.
The people are VERY open minded when it comes to new things.
Food is a HUGE industry here, and the people eat a lot.
I have been here a while now, and see the various opportunities available for folks to do really well. I have seen, and heard many things, and somewhat understand the Mexican mindset.
Now mind you, Mexico is no El Salvador. AMLO, the president here, doesnt want to make crypto legal tender. But he also doesnt discourage anyone from getting it. There is actually a Bitcoin ATM on the floor of congress, placed there by a very enthusiastic Bitcoin lover... And there are two Bitcoin/Litecoin to Peso 2 way ATMs in Mexico City at a place called Fantastico Comics. I have visited both of their stores, (both have a Bitcoin ATM) and withdrew over 19,000 Pesos last year alone.
But, this isnt the only reason a crypto economy would boom here...the people are energetic, and always looking for a way to make more money. But in reality, aren't we all? I see that with the right platform, the right mindset, and the right group of people, a planned crypto economy would THRIVE!
They have Bitso headquartered here. It is the biggest crypto exchange in Latin America. That is a big deal. I have said that exchanges are a problem recently, and still believe that. But there are folks who disagree with me, and they would be able to trade if they wish on the exchange.
There are many poor here as well. Just like in any country, they are here. But the poor are those who have no family ties, and have disabilities. Mostly women and children. And the interesting thing is that this last November was the FIRST time in Mexicos history that the government decided to help the disabled. Starting this last november, if a person is registered with the government with a disability, they will receive 2,950 pesos every 2 months.
This is a HUGE step forward for the country, and like everything, may be abused in the future. This will help folks get into crypto as well, because they will finally be able to get smart phones and download apps.
I have many ideas when it comes to the opportunities here in Mexico. I am excited to move forward with, and bring together a plan. It may take some time, and I will place it on my website when it is finished for all to join and move into the bartering, trading, crypto economy together.
If you have any ideas for this planned crypto economy, let me know in the comments below...
