So, here we are, sitting under a few trees thinking about my favorite things in Mexico, and it hit me...
Why not tell others about it...lol
Since moving here, I have had my fair share of ups and downs, and lots of misunderstandings.
I have started an off grid site, and even found about 6 people who are interested in English enough to actually take classes.
But what I really enjoy here, and what I wish they had more of, will make you want to visit...that's for sure.
#10...Tacos! Duh, Cody, they have tacos in Mexico! And amazing tacos at that.
I wasn't surprised that they had a variety of tacos of course, because being from the USA, I had been invited to many a Mexican party.
But the variety is so awesome at times, you literally have to try at least 5 before trying the next 5 COMPLETELY different tacos, and then there are 20 more different right after that.
Pork, pork skin, chicken, cactus, beef steak, potato, eggs, beans, and more and more, until you are about to explode...
#9. The salsas are different, due to the chili. Habanero, Serano, (Serano Jalapeño) Tree, and more to kick up the heat when you are prepared for it.
They often make two types that are very common in restaurants, red and green.
To me, the green is not as spicy, but sometimes it's a serious smack in the face.
#8. Freedom. You might be saying, Cody, they have freedom in Canada and the USA...well, I don't know about that...lol
The whole PLANdemic here was over in a few months, and in a few days the mask mandate is up.
But they are doing the same in the USA, and behind that is more restrictions, in my opinion. Just need to wait and see what happens.
#7. Low crime rate. (Don't even get me started...)
I am talking about violence, and not including smoking a joint and getting caught.
There is FAR less violence here than in the states. Far less, because a large chunk of the population is catholic.
But the cartels are really the most violent thing you will come across here... only if you are interested in drugs and prostitution, and other bad stuff, that is.
They don't bother you if you are a tourist or a working man, just if you are involved in the same activity, or a rival gang/cartel member.
They just don't care about the little people.
#6. Cost of living. WOW...is it amazingly low.
I can live on $250 USD per month here, and have everything I need.
If you are homeless in the USA, that same $250 might feed you for 2 weeks.
Rent is $90 to $120 USD, and if you WANT to pay more, they offer places more expensive, but why would you?
If you are on a pension, it's an amazing retirement, because $1,200 per month here is a LOT of money.
Again, there are colonies within the bigger cities that are super expensive and the rich live there, but you don't have to, (unless you want to.)
#5. Hospitality. Yes, Mexicans are very amazing people, and they grow on you.
Many are poor, so don't be surprised to be asked for a few pesos by many people as you walk down the street.
I don't mean that they will bother you every minute, but there are a lot of them especially in the bigger cities.
They will offer meals, water if it's too hot, and that's mostly because they are curious, and want to know more about you.
Just accept and chat with them. We are all a little curious about other countries, and that's why we visit them.
#4. Way of life. Just folks living their life. They are really family oriented, and that is something I respect.
Catholic as I said before and seriously religious.
#3. The weather. Yeah, it's warm all the time. Not a single flake of snow to see.
Most days are very nice...some are very hot, but always warm.
#2. Water. Ok, I miss the tap water at home, BUT...I do enjoy carrying a giant blue jug of water over my shoulder once a week.
I know, it's hard to do, but I got it down, and it doesn't bother me anymore.
I actually enjoy it now...haha
#1. The FOOD! Look, we already talked tacos, but that's just one thing.
Have you ever had a real quesadilla with beef steak, or another meat like chicken, or pork?
I ran into the BEST quesadilla lady I think in the world. Am I exaggerating, probably, but I eat there at least 3 days a week.
There are um...taco stands, but they sell other things like hamburgers, and fish and lots of Coke. It's their #1 drink here.
Hot dog vendors, fried chicken better than KFC, and lots of fish.
Mexican food is my favorite food, hands down.
So, those are what I enjoy, and what I wish they had more of would be more camping places.
Mexicans are not known for camping. Some even freaked out when I told them I was camping out.
I was very shocked to know this when it came to camping.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
Adieu!
