What it is fellow P0x'ers! Good morning, good day, good afternoon, good evening...wherever you are on the floating space rock Earth!! There has been a very low sentiment surrounding Bitcoin recently; driven primarily by a contiously depressed price and sales by major hodlers like Strategy. Though BTC is perhaps out of the limelight and fallen out of favour with the "mainstream" crowd, the price does actually remain in a relatively steady range.
Let's take a look at some major events that have happened in Bitcoin history for this day, July 18th...
On July 18, 2010 the now infamous Mt. Gox exchange was launched by Jed McCaleb. He had originally purchased the domain for "Magic: The Gathering Online eXchange," which eventually flopped and McCaleb repurposed the domain to become a Bitcoin exchange. McCaleb announced the exchange on the Bitcointalk forum on July 18, 2010, the response from early enthusiasts was incredibly quiet and highly skeptical. On its very first day of operation, the exchange processed a grand total of 20 Bitcoins, which sold for a mere 5 cents each.
On July 18, 2014 the U.S. state of New York released its first comprehensive framework for regulating digital currencies, universally known as the "BitLicense."
On July 18, 2022 the Celsius Network filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in New York, which became a historic turning point in the collapse of several major crypto lending platforms.
...how interesting that two of these events led to perhaps the hardest lesson that many Bitcoiners have been taught through experience. Don't store your coins on exchanges! So that's today's "this day in Bitcoin history!" I hope you have enjoyed it; stay tuned for more in the future!!
