We've Reached The Point Where We Can't Keep Up With The Machine's Pace

Elon Musk has declared that we have entered the age of singularity (technological singularity). This development, indicating that we have entered an era where artificial intelligence can surpass human intelligence and improve itself, brings with it many threats. Approximately nine years ago, leading artificial intelligence experts, including Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX, wrote a warning letter to the United Nations regarding the threat of artificial intelligence, stating that "Once Pandora's Box is opened, it will be difficult to close it."

Stuart Russell said eight years ago: "Unless we, as humankind, destroy ourselves by another method, the surpassing of human intelligence by artificial intelligence is inevitable. In a while, AI robots will be walking among us in the streets. They will wash clothes, harvest crops in the fields, and cook meals for you." Responding to claims that artificial intelligence could bring about the end of humanity, Russell said, “Right now, AI doesn’t have emotions like humans. In the future, to prevent AI from bringing about the end of a world where humanity lives, we must program them according to what we want from them. AI will surpass human intelligence at some point. But we don’t know when.” About eight or nine years have passed since then, and unfortunately, that day has arrived. If you ask what the concept of “singularity,” which Elon Musk mentioned and which means “technological singularity,” means, it is one of the most frequently mentioned concepts in the technology world in recent years. Singularity refers to the breaking point where artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence and improves itself, and from that point on, technological progress becomes unpredictable. In other words, singularity is not just a new technological stage; it is a threshold where humanity cannot keep up with the speed of the machine. After this threshold, the economy, security, production, art, and even the way humans define themselves may fundamentally change.

Technological singularity is a critical issue not only for Silicon Valley, but also for states, armies, and the global economy. Because once singularity occurs, superiority will no longer be measured by oil, natural gas, or population, but by the ability to possess self-improving intelligence systems. This will shift the world from classical power balances to an algorithmic geopolitics. The superpower of the new era will be the one that controls the speed of learning, not the territory. In short, technological singularity refers to the situation where artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence, improves itself, and humanity becomes unable to predict the future.

As the famous American scientist and futurist Ray Kurzweil famously defined it: "In human history, the speed of change increases so much that the future becomes unpredictable." Therefore, according to Kurzweil, singularity is a post-human threshold, the moment when control and prediction break down. In his 2005 book, "The Singularity Is Near," Ray Kurzweil predicted this could happen around 2045. However, Elon Musk says we're not just approaching that moment, we're already there. As you know, AI tools are accomplishing tasks that would take years in weeks and reshaping the way software is created. In the very near future, the pace of innovation will surpass human control. At that point, the future will cease to be a straight line and will be as fast and unpredictable as a rocket gone off course.

In a speech at the US-Saudi Investment Forum in late 2025, Elon Musk stated that AI and robotics would eventually make work "on demand" and that money would "disappear as a concept." Indeed, AI is compressing years of work into days. Next, robotics will spread to every field. Energy and space form the basis of this. As the cost of production continues to decrease with AI, the need for human labor also diminishes. One of the biggest concerns here is the possibility that artificial intelligence could eventually reach a level of intelligence beyond human control. If AI surpasses human intelligence, it could one day replace humanity. This could lead to a future where humans are no longer the dominant species on the planet, but enslaved by machines, just like in the Transformers movies!

Furthermore, the singularity of artificial intelligence is ultimately a complex and unpredictable phenomenon. It is impossible to predict what the singularity will bring to humanity. Therefore, it is crucial to evaluate this concept from all angles in order to be prepared for the future. The concept of singularity describes not only the strengthening of artificial intelligence but also the most radical turning point in human history. Technological singularity means the moment when the machine surpasses human intelligence, and the pace of progress becomes incomprehensible to the human mind. From this point on, the question shifts from "what technology are we producing?" to "who is in control now?". Singularity points not so much to a technological leap, but to the possibility of a shift in the control architecture of civilization.
