Are We Really Free?

By charmingcherry08 | My Story | 25 Sep 2020

I remember my professor during my Senior High School discussing about freedom. He said, we are born free. We have freedom since birth.

As I heard and analyzed what he was saying, I suddenly raised my right hand and asked him, "did we actually had freedom since we were born?". He answered yes, with a confused look maybe because he just said it minutes ago, and there I am asking him again. I did heard what he said, but I wasn't satisfied. I wanted a deeper and wider explanation.

Then, I asked a follow up question, again. "If we were free or had freedom since birth, why aren't we given the chance of choosing whether we like that freedom or not?". And added a statement, "Imagine this, I was born free and with freedom, but I didn't want it. What if, if I had the chance to choose, I will not choose being free? Therefore, we are not born free because in the first place we didn't had the opportunity to choose if we wanted to have freedom and be free since birth."

I saw a curious and confused look on my professor's face and my classmates'. They looked like they were thinking about it and conceptualizing every word I just said.
