Now famous as “ISIS bride”, Shamima Begum the resident of England told- why she left Britain to join the terrorist organization!
Shamima Begum, known as the “ISIS Bride”, has revealed in an interview that she had joined the terrorist organization ISIS in February 2015. But why did she take this decision and under what circumstances to go to Syria is no more a mystery! Would you believe Shamima was only 15 years old when she left England with her friends?
Shamima has told in that interview now known as ‘The Return: Life after ISIS’ because her friends were going to join ISIS and she did not want to be known as a friend that was left behind.
Shamima is now 21 years old and was living in the Al Rose camp in northern Syria. This camp is under the control of the armed forces.
I should mention it here that Shamima was living in Bethnal Green area of East London with her family in England before she went to Syria. In February 2015, Shamima reached Syria with two other schoolgirls to join ISIS. All three had reached Raqqa via Turkey.
She was 9 months pregnant at camp
In February 2019, Shamima was found in a refugee camp in Syria. She was then nine months pregnant at that time. And prior to this, she had already spent three years in this ISIS area.
As per the reports of various newspapers, Shamima told in this much talked about documentary when she left Britain, she was very young and innocent. It was a public holiday when she met two of her friends and decided to go to Syria with them.
As for Shamima, she admits it was difficult to take this decision, but then ultimately she had to decide and she took this step. She now regrets that she went as she didn’t want to be left behind while her friends were gone.
Shamima Begum told how she had left the house without meeting her mother, while before leaving, she wanted to hug her mother at least once. But that was not to be.
By the way, Shamima had left for Syria with two other girls - Meera Abbas and Khadija Sultana. Shamima says that Meera and Khadija already killed.
Shamima Lost Three Children in Six Years
Shamima says she has also lost three children in the last six years. Shamima felt sorry for her friends. She says, “I feel that I have left with no friends, those two were my best friends, my everything. And the worst, I have also lost the citizenship of my country.”
Incidentally, in February 2019, when Shamima Begum was found in a Syrian refugee camp, the British government revoked her British citizenship. In February 2021, the Supreme Court of Britain disallowed Shamima Begum’s return to England.
Then a petition was filed by her to get her British citizenship back but the UK government challenged Shamima’s petition in the Supreme Court and also said that if she is allowed to return, it will be a threat to national security.
Let me mention here that Shamima is basically from Bangladesh but Shamima was born in Britain so a natural citizen of England. Shamima married a Dutch-born Yago Riedijk in 2015, a few days after reaching Raqqa in Syria. Riedijk was 23 years old when he married Shamima 15.
