Here is part 1 of my series on the Eagles!

Peaceful Easy Feeling is a song written by Jack Tempchin and recorded by the Eagles. Jack Tempchin wrote the song during a period in which he was performing at folk coffee shops around his hometown of San Diego. He went on to become a famous song writer and producer for various classic rock bands and a solo artist, respectively. He's stated in interviews "We'd sit in front of the picture window and watch the beautiful girls on the bus stop bench and fall in love with them until their bus came. We talked in those days about how love never seems to show up until you stop looking for it. But, as young guys, we were unable to stop looking for love even for one day."

Desperado is their 2nd album. It was recorded at Island Studios in London, England, and released in 1973. Singles included were Tequila Sunrise and Outlaw Man. Although the title track is one of the Eagles' quintessential songs, it was never released as a single but I included it anyway. Desperado was written by Frey and Henley. They recorded it in London with musicians from the London Philharmonic Orchestra. For their first songwriting session, Frey was invited to Henley's house in Laurel Canyon, LA. Henley played Frey the unfinished version of the song, and said: "When I play it and sing it, I think of Ray Charles and Stephen Foster. It's really a Southern Gothic thing, but we can easily make it more Western." According to Henley, "Frey leapt right on it – filled in the blanks, brought structure, and the song became "Desperado". And that was the beginning of our song-writing partnership ... that's when we became a team."

Tequila Sunrise was written by Henley and Frey. Interestingly enough, they didn’t write songs together for their debut album. The title refers to a cocktail of the same name that was popular then. Henley has said about the song "I believe that was a Glenn title. I think he was ambivalent about it because he thought that it was a bit too obvious or too much of a cliché because of the drink that was so popular then. I said, 'No-Look at it from a different point of view. You've been drinking straight tequila all night and the sun is coming up!' It turned out to be a really great song".

Outlaw Man was written by David Blue. A singer/songwriter in his own right, he became an integral part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene in NYC, along with Bob Dylan. Blue wrote it for them to fit the theme of the album, Western outlaw gangs. Frey provides the lead vocals on this song, with the other members singing harmony on the chorus.

On the Border is the 3rd album by released in 1974. Apart from 2 songs produced by Glyn Johns, it was produced by Bill Szymczyk because the group wanted a more rock‑oriented sound instead of the country-rock feel of the first two albums. Singles included were Already Gone, James Dean, and Best of My Love. Already Gone was written by Jack Tempchin and Robb Strandlund, who ended up being ghostwriters for several other of the band's song that we will get to later on. Frey has stated "Tempchin sent him a tape of the song through the mail. He had already written one of the Eagles' previous singles, "Peaceful Easy Feeling". He liked it so much it was one of the first songs that they recorded for that album.
