By Law, the US Military is required to purchase equipment only US based manifacturers or such from other appoved nations. As you can imagine, Chine is not on that list.
The fun part is a Brooklyn company that was working previously with the Military was sending Military Gear accessories to a Chinese factory for them to make cheap knockoffs.
Then they started selling those items to the US military and other governament agencies. The worst part this could put lives at risk.
The amount of money spent on those items are over $20M accorind to this Department of Justice press release.
More than 1700 boxes with the items were aprehended by US Department of Justice and the owner of the company is procescuted and faces charges that could send him for up to 15 years in federal prison.
Part of the knockoffs were 200 parkas that were suposed to be invisible for the nigh vision electronics, due to their special fabrics, however the Chinese product is not made of the same material and that could be fatal if that ended up in their inteded wearers: Air Force personnel stationed in Afghanistan.
