Since April 1st 2019, Elbrus OS has been available to download and install not only the Russian state structures but also to everybody who wants it.
The Russian operating system Elbrus, which is compatible with the computers based on the Elbrus processors, is now available for free download and can be installed on any computer that satisfies the very low system requirements. Until now, this platform was not available for anyone to download.
Each of the versions of the operating system Elbrus is based on differently modified Linux kernel. To date, a free version of the Elbrus operating system for x86 processors is available, which also works on 64-bit architecture. Distributions are available at the developer's official website. The new OS Elbrus 4.0 based on Linux Kernel 4.9 should be released soon.
From the official site, not only the distribution with the open version of Elbrus can be downloaded, but additional software as well as full documentation in Russian.
Other versions of OS Elbrus are not available for download. These are versions that only work with the Russian Elbrus processors and which includes software for developers.
System requirements of the open version are minimal: 1 GB of RAM, 40 GB of disk space, VGA graphics, DVD drive.
