One of the things that members of our cycling team place a lot of emphasis on is promoting cycling as a common transportation method. And from time to time, after an out-of-town successful journey like coming back from remote places such as mountains, sea, and river, they enter the city streets, parading in uptown at rush hour.
Cycling in the main square of the city is something we insist on with the only purpose of showing we exist and this is the right way to live. We want to spread the passion for cycling inside the city as well even though it seems a difficult task.
Sometimes I day-dream about living in a city where people hate cars. Even imagining it is beautiful. A city where people only ride bicycles and giant ugly cars, each making noises, spreading a nasty smoke, and taking up as much space as dozens of bikes, all suddenly disappeared.
How amazing and glorious that city would be!
The crowded and nerve-wracking streets would be empty and people would live healthily and peacefully.
I want that city…
Well we are far from this dream. The last time we went to the main square of the city and rode our bicycles around the square several times, the eyes of the policemen who were staring at us in the patrol car were not very kind.
But we won't get disappointed just yet. Some day they understand.
