Further ways to avoid getting crypto scammed.

I thought I was savvy when it comes to scammers but in fact this last week I have been scammed twice doing things I know I should not have done. I thought I would do a quick blog to see if I can help avoid others getting sucked in like me (stupid as I was).

I had a problem with my ONTO wallet and decided to go on the Telegram group and ask if there were any problems. I was replied to by the Community Admin called Hamzat who said there were no reports of problems. However I got a direct message on Telegram from Hamzat (or so I thought as his profile was similar) telling me what i needed to do. I stupidly got sucked in and not only gave my ONT seed code (12 word phrase) but he said I needed to tfr some funds to sync the blockchain and asked me to go onto my ledger (which again I told them about). Open a new wallet in Trust wallet with my ledger 24 word seed code.

Meanwhile i had just given them access to both wallets and was scammed out of £5000.

NB As I should have known you NEVER give out those seed codes even to someone pretending to be support.

The next day I remembered I was staking the funds in the ONT wallet and they were locked for a period and i thought I would try to get problem with wallet resolved so I went onto Telegram ONT community again (big mistake) and the Admin this time was someone with id Dumont with a scary identifying logo.

Again someone came on with the same logo and said the account was locked and I needed to tfr $100 to validate the blockchain $100 to authenticate and $100 to release funds. Like an idiot I went along with this and lost a further $300 which I had to buy as I had no further crypto.

So in a nutshell and these will seem obvious:

(1) If you have a problem with anything on crypto (wallets etc) do not go on telegram.

(2) Never ever give out 12 or 24 word seed codes as no matter whether you or they key them in you are giving access to your funds.

(3) Dont be conned when asked to tfr crypto funds to resolve issues as that is a sure sign of a scam.

Hope this helps someone and I will have acheived something as it is a horrible experience.

I think the old adage is apt here. If it looks like a scam, feels like a scam then it probably is.

I started in cryptocurrency in June 2017 when the last bull run was in its final 6 months big run up (although I didnt realise that at the time). My portfolio of about £3000 had reached a total of approx £27000 but unfortunately I didnt cash out so this is presently (5/1/20) worth 50% of my original investment but I am hoping an upturn is underway and I will be back in a profit. I will in next part give some thoughts and tips for newbies (who dont intend to learn technical analysis and day trade).
